Trenchless Sewer Repair in Highland Park, IL: Saving a Paver Patio from Excavation
The Situation
A homeowner in Highland Park was dealing with a nightmare scenario: their sewer line was backing up due to severe root intrusion, but the access point was located directly in the middle of a beautiful, custom brick paver patio. Traditional repair methods would have required jackhammering the pavers and destroying the hardscape to replace the pipe. The homeowner needed a permanent solution that wouldn't destroy their backyard oasis.
The Technical Diagnosis
Our initial camera inspection revealed that the 6-inch clay sewer pipe had heavy root growth penetrating almost every joint from the house all the way to the city main. Additionally, the transition from the house's cast-iron pipe to the clay pipe was rough and deteriorating. While we could clean the roots out, they would inevitably grow back thicker and faster, posing a constant threat of blockage.
The Solution
We deployed our Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Sewer Lining technology. Working entirely through the existing cleanout in the patio, we installed a structural liner in two directions. First, we lined 11 feet upstream to seal the connection to the cast iron under the house. Then, we lined 61 feet downstream to the city main. We also used our robotic cutter to "reinstate" (re-open) the active drain tile connections that were covered by the liner, ensuring the home's drainage system functioned perfectly.
The Result:
The result is a brand new, jointless "pipe-within-a-pipe" that is impervious to tree roots and guaranteed to last for 50+ years. Best of all, the Highland Park homeowner’s patio remained completely untouched. No mess, no digging, and total peace of mind.
