Chicago Duct Cleaning FAQs
What types of Air Duct pipes can be lined?
Most any type of pipes can be lined with the Duct Armor duct lining material. Because the material is designed with a high adhesion value, it will bond to most any material it is sprayed on. Most commonly seen underground pipes are galvanized, concrete, transite, clay tile, PVC or cardboard.
Is duct lining a long term solution?
The Duct Armor product is designed with a 30 plus year life expectancy, and Trenchless Innovations provides a 15 year limited warranty on the installation of the product.
How long will I be without my furnace?
Customers are able to use their furnace (heat or air conditioning) as soon as the application is completed. The only downtime experienced is during the application of the product which typically takes 3-4 hours.
Is the product safe and do we need to leave the house?
The Duct Armor product has been extensively tested for safety by a 3rd party testing facility. The homeowner does not need to leave the house at anytime during or after the application.
Is there an odor?
Because the product is latex based, most homeowners will experience a smell similar to that after painting their walls. This smell typically will go away anywhere from 3days to a week after application.
What size of pipes can be lined?
Most common underground pipe diameters are 6″, however Trenchless Innovations can line any pipes from 3″ on up. One recent installation included an 18″ trunk line.
Can mold grow inside the pipe once it is lined?
Because the Duct Armor product has a 3% zinc content, mold is unable to grow inside the lined pipe. Mold typically will grow inside air ducts when there are holes in the pipe allowing dirt and moisture to enter into the pipe. The Duct Armor product will cover and seal these holes and prevent further mold growth in the duct.
Will installing the liner in my pipe reduce the air flow?
Although the installation of the Duct Armor product will reduce the diameter of the pipe by a small amount, it should not reduce the amount of air flow. In many cases it is believed to improve airflow through the pipe, because it has created a smooth surface for the air to flow through and has sealed off any holes that may have reduced the airflow.
Will lining stop water from entering my ducts?
Although the Duct Armor product is water resistant, it is not water proof and is not guaranteed to keep water out. If there is a water problem commonly caused by improper drainage, that problem should be addressed prior to lining the ducts.
